here's my 41 Western flyer and my 40 Roadmaster...same forks. the original forks that came on the Roadmaster have same spring set up but i cant put the wheel in because its a hole not a notch in fork. and the axle was way to long on this wheel for me to try.

Look at the lower spring rest on the white one. That’s prewar. The black one is postwar.

THe legs are also separate and bolted on on prewar forks. Postwar the legs are attached at the top

im highly confused. all my springers are bolted but one pair. The legs are held in by cotter pins. If you can show me exactly what your talking about id be happier. As ive been taught by people older then me the difference between pre and post war is the shape of the springs and the shape of the bottom trusses. if they are straight and cylindrical then i was told they are pre war. if they look like beehives and bottom trusses are side ways then its a postwar 50s era fork.

Prewar:

Crown is more crescent shaped
Lower spring perch is wrapped around the leg of fork
Legs are separate and bolted on

Postwar:

Legs are one piece and attached with cotter pins

The spring shape changed when the lower struts were bumped outward (1950+)
