Most likely that was about the change over to model time of the year. Frame numbers were stamped spme time before the bike was built in those days also. Roger

There is no way to date a frame. The date associated to the serial number is the date that number was stamped on the bikes component before it was used to build a frame. Is it possible for a 56 model to have a serial number that was stamped in October 55? Yes, there is a small chance that could happen.
