Riding a '38 Autocycle Deluxe
Hello, My knowledge is pretty poor (and I seem to forget more than I remember) on the Krates and Sting Rays. I have some nice Krates and a couple of decent Sting Rays. I'm always buying more tires, upgrading and just hoarding what I think I might need, which is silly, but part of my tire ( and multiple) obesession/s.

I don't have anything too rare anymore, but am knee deep in 26" balloon and have these few muscle bike tires I don't think I'm going to need. I forget the dating, please decifer. These are used tires, but pretty rare being made in U.S.A. , that I know from being in the hobby almost 40 years and buying, saving, selling OEM tires.

The 20" Slik is in amazing shape but obviously was on a rim ( they all were) and sat with a flat, thus some cracks in 2 spots, not bad, VERY pliable. C 58 2?

The 16" Superiors ( one had an owner paint the white letters/some remains) quite pliable, has a yellow 112 sticker inside and the 3 circles for date and very minor sidewall cracking. It would look almost NOS inflated, albeit the tread shows some wear.

The other 16" Superior is very soft and no inner tags but has the date code C 23 1? or C 25 1 branded in the sidewall as opposed to the 3 circles on the other tire. If squeezed hard, the sidewall cracks are more, but inflated they would vanish. Again, the tread has some wear. There are a couple of exterior blems on the sidewall ( certainly not cuts) by the right of Made in U.S.A..
I'm debating on whether to keep, CABE sell, DOND, Ebay. They would be pricey to ship and Feebay seems so unuser friendly these days.

I've been on here long enough, offered my opinion, shared my knowledge, so this isn't a newbie fishing trip. Sure, info and a price ( I can look at Ebay, and these do sell high, even used, and I have paid STUPID $$ for new or used OEM rubber) is appreciated. Thanks, Bob

Hey Bob
Tires not going to be used for a while. I found last much much longer if kept in a cool climate or coldest room in the house. Stops them from getting dry & brittle. Kinda like woman. Woops I was thinking that out loud sorry.🤭

Lots of debate on the Slik, the mold lines and the font. I have asked this same question before with no difintive answer. The smaller Font was the later tires and I was told the later tires had the full mold lines like yours so thay would tell me the 5 8 in the oval indicates May of 1978 as the May of 1968 would have the larger font and no mold lines. I believe this tire was still available in 1978. I do not believe the Suprerior was not availabe in '63 or '65 so the 2 3 or 2 5 would indicate 1973 or 1975 which matters as they did not make a Krate in '75. I believe the 3 circles start in 1960 each quater of each circle is a year and the number of dots indicates the quater of the year. your tire has 2 dots in the quater of the circle that corrosponds to 1970 so the second quater of 1970. That is if I'm correct about the circles starting in 1960 it may start at 1961. I'm not 100 % sure about the superior tires and when they were first introduced maybe they could be a '63 or '65. Others will know better.

Just a FYI about the cracks in the Carlisle produced Schwinn tires. I have a Schwinn/Carlisle 20 x 2.125 white side wall knobby tire on the front wheel of my "rider" Cycle Truck with cracks, or separations in the tread rubber. I have ridden that tire for the past twenty years that way, and I overinflate the tire to 35#. When the tire blows out, I will replace it. The rubber cracks are cosmetic, they are still rideable/useable.
