~~Wartime tires~~

-

okozzy

Wore out three sets of tires already!
I am in the middle of bringing back to life an old 1944 Huffman lightweight, which requires wartime tires; 26"x1.375, unknown to me, these are tricky to find.
I bought a pair of 26"x1 3/8 tires but they were too small.
Has anyone had any luck mounting a different size tire on these type of wheels?

I have had success with Schwinn 26 inch S-6 tires on 26x1.375 rims. I ride them all the time. The 26x1.375 tires are 599mm and the Schwinn S-6 Tires are 597mm so they are a tiny bit tight but work well.

Right - Schwinn S5/6 597mm bead seat will work on many 26 x 1.375 rims. They are a struggle on rims with high sidewalls, but go fine on most rims. The Kenda tires in 597 are not bad in quality either.

As noted, English 26 x 1-3/8 is 590mm, which is indeed too small.

I'll throw up the chart again

it doesn't address 599 wartime tires, but may be helpful.
At one time there were 700, 700A, 700B, and 700C also.
