On Training Wheels
Just joined the forum, so apologies if this is in the wrong place.

My father-in-law has an antique metal tricycle that was received by his father in the 1960s from a woman living in Houston, TX. The seat includes "WASHINGTON" and axe-shaped cutouts. The pedals and handlebar are made of wood. The front wheel has 10 spokes, and rear wheels have 8 spokes each.

Dimensions:
  • Overall length - 32 inches
  • Rear axle length - 14 inches
  • Handle bar height - 23 inches
  • Front wheel diameter - 16 inches
  • Rear wheel diameter - 12 inches
Any information about this tricycle would be much appreciated!

Welcome to the CABE! Yes, this was posted in the correct forum. There isn't much information on tricycles of this age with the wooden wheels and spokes, but you never know...someone here may have come across some they could share. I'm guessing this tricycle to be from around 1870 or thereabouts. It definitely is the real deal and not one of the newer wooden wheel decorative trikes you see so often. Hope someone else has more info on it. I'd be interested myself.

Dave
