Hi @elginkid

Sorry for the late reply, I was travelling. Thanks for putting up the details and photos. (-:

E22868 / G8. As you know, this is a 1940 serial number. With the details given, this would be a March 1940 assembled bike with an August 1940 made frame. Since this is not possible, and I can see the serial number in your photos, I suggest the frame date should be G3, March 1940, which fits with the build date.

Here is a very near survivor from @Krakatoa . I have no details other than the S/N

And only one other Corsair listed, a late 1936 from @cds2323, on post 127 here ; https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/westfield-frame-numbers-1933-1945.100743/page-13#post-1282582

Hi @Dodgerguy62

and Thanks for showing that nice pair of bicycles.

Starting with G43953/J2. The frame was made in February 1942, in a breathing space between G519 Military bicycles, and the frame would have been functionally identical. Below is an extract from my list of known survivors.

G45112/J2 of @von_hansel is the nearest civilian survivor. https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/westfield-frame-numbers-1933-1945.100743/page-14#post-1358507

Originally it was painted blue like yours, but has had a harder life....

It is badged Westfield, is that the same with yours?

The LACO is thought to stand for Los Angeles County (logical, seeing your address...). There may be some faint numbers following that, but it would have related to the bicycle license for the bike.

Part 2 for @Dodgerguy62

F52536/H5 Frame made May 1941, and it looks like it was built up about the same time.

Below is an extract from my list of known survivors, showing that Westfield were still producing Elgins for Sears at this point too.

Please could you tell me the rear brake types used on both of these bikes, and, if they are Morrow, what the letter/number date code is?

Thanks again.

Best Regards,

Adrian
