I'm not a Schwinn expert, that's for sure. So what brand and model of pedals did they use in 1958?

The Hornet was a long running model and it had more than its share of component changes over the years. Then to confuse things Schwinn started producing two variants of the Hornet by adding the name Deluxe to one of the two Hornets. Prior to that name, the standard Hornet would have been a Deluxe model. These models also went through a frame change and a down grade showed up with a bolt on stand and rolled stem. Then sometime in/for 1958 the stand was again the built in piece. For the most part these models used the Torrington 8 and possibly another brand or two where the blocks look almost identical.

Here's a NOS straight out of the box 1958 Hornet, not the Deluxe though. Waffle block pedals!!
