What are these?

What are these wing nut things on my fork? It’s a 1946 Schwinn made Leacock Sporting Goods, St. Louis, badged Jupiter model.

I was going to ask you the same question when I first saw your picture of the bike.

My guess would be tabs for a basket. Check the handlebar for wear from straps to secure the basket to the bar. May have been mounted high to clear the sweet fender light.(stem and bar look to be replaced however)

I agree ,probably for a modified basket mount.

Here’s a closer picture of the stem and bars. Why do you think they have been replaced?

Most DX models came with the knuckle style D model stem...but not all.

Totally different bike and modern rack..maybe same principal ..a short support arm Wald Basket Made to fit to go over the light??? Im just guessing

I'm not a Schwinn expert but don't think that stem was used on Schwinn bikes. I may be mistaken but it just doesn't look right to me. I'm not apposed to being educated on the matter however.
