Tore down the 37 Elgin Oriole again, I had reworked the coaster brake a week ago, and it still didn't stop right, plus it now had a ghost pedal under load.

I had seen a few years ago, when Mark @tripple3 had a similar issue on his Tiki cruiser, that turned out to be the clutch and driver. Asked @Gordon if he had a set and indeed he did. Much thanks to both Mark and Gordon on helping to resolve this issue.

I had wondered if the wheels were correct on this, and yes they are. The date code on the Elgin Air Cooled Musselman checks out to 3rd quarter, 1937.

Anyway, with input from Gordon and Mark, I replaced the clutch and driver, replaced the bearings with a NOS set. Honed the hub cylinder and lightly went over the brake shoe with some 400 w/d. It now stops better than any other bike I have. This thing is grabby.

While it was apart, I installed NOS drop stand bolts, whoever redid this bike previously, had a make do set of bolts for the stand, that while functional, were just wrong. I had ordered an extra set years ago when I replaced them on my bride's 41 Elgin, they work great.

I did use lock nuts on it, as well as some blue lock tite, it is embarrassing when your stand falls off on a ride.

I’m so glad you posted this! And I saw it! I’ve got the same hub that was incredibly hard to brake last I rode it. I’ll remember this advice when I get to that bike, currently the back half of the frame needs replaced….

Look Ma, No Hands!
Any help out there? Check out the pictures. This is definitely a cool bike and all I did was clean it up so far as much as I could. It was pretty darn dirty. The 3 speed shifter is tied down to keep it as a one speed right now but it appears to be fully functioning. I don't know much about old bikes but I have to say the brake system makes older bikes pretty dangerous. Nevertheless, the bike rides pretty despite sitting for years in a garage. Please reply with whatever you can tell me about this bike or its value. Thank you!

The brake levers are flipped, for someone from England or left handed to ride. Rear brake lever should be on the right for the states. Front brake on the left.

I just wanted to clean up the brake lamp unit on my ‘47 Higgins. I did a little bit of zinc plating, new fiber washers, new rivets, new cloth wire, resistor, etc. I didn’t want it to look perfect because the rest of the bike is original. I found a piece of metal to make a bracket to serve as a battery tie down

I recently taught my 6 year old to ride without training wheels. I have a really nice campus green Pixie for her, but she’s on the smaller side and it looked awkward for her to ride…

So I dug out a mini stingray I had, that I was trying to turn into a swap meet rider for myself, a poor man’s Runabout… But I abandoned that plan awhile back…

So I got creative with some of her Pixie parts! I swapped out the exerciser adjustable bolts once I got her dialed in. Much more natural than her stretched out on the banana seat first gen Pixie.

Riding One Of My Monark Super Deluxe's
Some projects just never seem quite right!
I had set this 53 Rocket in the back of the shop, because it just never quite looked like I wanted. I tried a few different ideas and it just wasn't there!
Well, pulled it back out and while going back to the basics, came up with what I'm calling finally done. Has the look, but is also a friendly riding bike!
