From what I've seen, I really like the pre-war straight-bar version, w/o the springer, but with the locking front fork. Also, with the reflectors on the side of the tank and with the speedometer integrated into the handlebars.
I guess that this would be a 1937?
Is this the most collectible of the Autocycles? The blue ones with the red tires and grips are absolutely spectacular. Perhaps one of the nicest looking bicycles ever made? One day I'd like to find and restore one. I know that it would be a long and expensive project.
Also, a few related questions:
1. What are the non-springer forks called (the ones with the two simple support bars that come up from the hub to the stem and no springer mechanism?
2. When did Schwinn start putting the springer mechanisms on frames? I believe cantilever frames came out in 1938? Is this right?
Any info would be appreciated
