what kind of bike is this, and is it worth buying for $50? its missing the front fender and seat.

Chain ring looks AMF, and that's what the badge reads too.
It is a "middleweight" kind of bike maybe from later 1950's - looks earlier than 1960's "space" bikes.

You'll spend more than a hundred getting the bike road worthy again .. tubes - tires - seat - and the unforeseen .. plus your time .. then you might get less than fifty bucks for it ... find a better base bicycle to start with ..
 
I think it says AMF Roadmaster. Looks like it spent 99.999% of it's time in the yard.
Maybe they'll pay you to haul it off! [emoji3]

I'm all for a for a project bike...but I think I'd put my $50 toward another project . The forks are definitely jacked up. No telling how long it's been outside.
