'Lil Knee Scuffer
Hi All, Please help me identify this bike I dug out of my grandparent's basement.
Late 50s to Early 60s Huffy. Has been repainted black over a red or light purple.
Where is the serial # located??? Can't find it in any of the usual places unless it is filled in by the black paint.
How much do you think I could get for it in the San Francisco Bay Area?
Thanks

according to one thread the number is under the crank on the frame. so try turning it upside down and sanding some of the paint off.

though this article shows a 1958 serial # by the back wheel. it should be in one of these spots, probably obscured by paint.

Well... I'm confused. Try looking under the bottom bracket (under the crank) as 49autocycledeluxe says. I really expected it to be on the rear forks... something like 8Hxxxxxx.

The weird part is Huffy kept prewar style rear forks on the frame until sometime in the late 50s, maybe 1957 or 1958? But I have seen bikes with the old rear forks and the serial number stamped in them. I cant prove it, but I think that change was in 1954. Your number really SHOULD be on the rear fork (dropout) I think. Let us know what you find under the bottom bracket.

Here's another bike from an old thread that has the same style dropouts as yours. 9H for 1959, and they stamped it upside down!

AHA! I found something...on the frame near the axle on the outside...but it seems to be upside down (as is in the pic from Superman1984).
Maybe 9H2... anyone know where I can look that up and find the year?

I didn't post or say anything but if you sand that off or wire wheel it; it's likely going to be the serial #s and Yes Huffy can be dated fairly easy by them. Usually the bottom bracket or left rear drop out is the 2 most common places. Some bike manufacturers are weird with them on the seat tube or the goose necks though.
