John D. Williams

Finally riding a big boys bike
Just bought this beauty. Big frame, Wrights racing saddle, Normandy high flange hubs, Nervar crank, Huret Allvit derailleur system with long shifters, Rigida steel rims, no-name brakes (?). I've seen the pedals before but forgot what brand? Nice condition. Serial number 23268386 under a lot of paint on the seat lug. The leather saddle and the lack of rubber hoods on the levers make me wonder if this is a 60s not 70s bike? I know it's Raleigh but would love to know the exact year. Closest I got was a thread here of a very similar bike-- https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/1972-bsa-10-speed.164675/

I'm gonna guess mid/late 60s. Plastic caps on those Philips block rat traps.
Your front hub and derailleur may have date codes on them.
Pretty bike.
👍

Do you know where the date code would be on the derailleur?
Not off hand, but sides or back.
Date codes are the ticket though. perhaps the rear hub also. Have you found a serial number?
Raleigh framed it may be on the seat post under the seat.
With the the long wheelbase, block rat traps and close stem, it has the club bike vibe.

I have the exact same bike! Never thought I'd see another one. Mine might not be THAT tall? I'd have to measure it again. It's the 23" frame, I believe. Mine is just about that clean, too. I somehow got the idea that mine is a 1972. Not sure now how I got that figured out. I'm thinking of converting mine to a 3 speed since I can't find an RRA or Lenton.
