Whats this Royal Flyer bike with a gearbox??

This is supposedly an old Royal Flyer bicycle with what looks like a gearbox on the crank. it appears there is a cable to and from the handlebar for changing gears? I have never seen anything like this and would like opinions on it. I would assume "rare"? Whatya say?

Looks like a Dana 3 speed transmission

if you are thinking of buying it, do it.

the Troxel Tool Box saddle alone is worth getting it, along with a nice tank bike. ( I would probably sell plasma to get the bike)
