What's up with this 85 Columbia reproduction?

I have a few parts as shown when you're Ready to Restore.

When I got this a few years back I kept the seat, pedals and darts. Then I stole the guard for another 'secret project'.
Zero primer found when stripping, but the paint did put up a good fight.
I always found rack too frilly and ridded the paint there too. It had factory over spray and masking marks.
I can't unload the thing around here, but seeing yours inspires me!
Maybe I'll go with incompatible clear, let it sit in a pile of burning leaves, then throw it in a snow bank until February.
That just might get me close. But then again, what did you say about lye?

Is this a weird situation, or did this repro corrode in a different way that the original bikes did? Either this was not primed before painting, used poor quality metal or was kept in a shed full of lye.

I like a bit of patina (I dated her sister) but this is too much.

Maybe in Coca Cola? Ever see what that does to a penny? Salt water maybe. Fresh water without oxygen, it should be ok?
