When did bicycle grips with the finger grips appear?

Trying to figure out if the grips that came with the vintage bike that I recently bought were original to the bike, or if they're a later addition.

Similar in shape to the set below, but in black.

More than anything else, I'm interested in whether that shape of grip existed at the time when the bike was manufactured (mid-1930's to early 1940's), even if they didn't come with this particular model of bike.

1936-1937...ish

Most of these grips appeared then but there are other styles as well and the first ones did not have holes in the ends...

Your bike if it is around the war could of had wooden grips painted black that were ribbed no finger grips.

If this is the bike.... Columbia/Westfield or Shelby:rolleyes:
