I really wanted this Schwinn Surburban, a super-clean time capsule with a Feb '70 serial number. However, the seller was on Long Island, which would have entailed a 3-4 hour round trip drive on congested highways, including the infamous Southern State Parkway. (The Southern State has roughly 4,000 accidents per year) The seller did not even want to meet 1/2 way, so I let the bike go. Now I feel like a lazy bum after reading this thread! I do regret letting this bike get away.

It depends on the circumstances, I've let bikes go because I didn't have the time to go look or I needed the money for something else, sometimes it's just not meant to be. But that's a very clean Suburban.

Agreed. Only $250 too. I hope someone here scored it and it's sitting in a collection vs being used as a commuter. Looking back, I could have taken mass transit - it would have been a two or three seat ride. But, getting bikes on to the LIRR and PATH can be difficult. Another one will come along.

I know there are some people who love road trips and have no issue traveling many hundreds of miles to get a bike, but I am not among them. Last year, I traveled to buy/pick-up two bikes: one 90 minutes each way and one 30 minutes each way. My wife likes road trips (though she hates bicycles) and drove the car on the 90/90 trip. I did the 30/30 solo. We also did a 60-minute each way trip to donate a couple vintage bicycles to a bike charity having a swap meet last summer. My wife was more than happy to go on a trip where bicycles were permanently leaving rather than coming in.

Great pics and a really great post….I like the fact you had the forethought to capture your adventure. We all have made those trips and some Have made these trips together that special piece. Thanks
