THEGOLDENGREEK

Cruisin' on my Bluebird
Newly found, is the Peerless Shelby bicycle. I know I've seen this badge before on a other bicycle in the past. Was it company ,wholesaler, hardware store, department store? My other question on the year of this bicycle serial number starts with the letter P 51940.... It's colors are black, white with gold pinstriping. Front and rear hubs new depature. The rims are painted black with a gold pinstripe. Tires say Cornell Clipper on them I put air in them and they hold are. It also has a horn and light aluminum headlight on it. Just really dusty from sitting all these years. This should clean up nicely. A true time capsule. Well any info on this bike would greatly be appreciated!

Yes, for sure~^^^ middle of 1937, really nice find there, thanks for sharing it. Not sure about the retailers that carrried it, but others should know. I will add it to the Shelby badged prewar serial number thread. A great example of an original one!

Those truss rods are 39. Have you guys ever seen those truss rods in 37? In 37 they used the straighter truss rods with the open eared bracket under the fork to support the truss rods. Those same truss rods were used on no nose bikes which weren't introduced until late 39. The long tank shelbys also used this same truss rod. When I say long tank... I'm referring to the tank that extends past the seat tube and resembles a Rollfast tank also. Rollfast had one very similar but... the rollfast tank had a different width than the shelby one. But.... the long tank bikes were 1939 and 40. Same truss rods. All of the Peerless badged bikes I've seen (and I own 3) all are 39 and 40's. Nothing earlier.

One more HUGE thing to note I just noticed.... the stem. That's a late 39/40 stem. I have 2 Shelbys with that same stem. One is a girls Airflow. That stem wasn't used long at all for whatever reason. Seriously one year maybe two total.

One more thing.... it's odd it has a Miller side stand which was a late 39 thing as well. Sure it has screw holes for a dropstand and dropstands had their issues but most bikes over seen leave the clip behind on the fender and just remove the dropstand. So..... somebody must have went out of their way to remove that clip.... or... this could be correct possibly with a side stand. Who knows? Only if bikes could talk.............

I think you are right about your obs. When guessing like we like to do, it makes your imagination run wild. Must remember, parts are usually/always/typically changed out like these shiny bars & stem, the original stand, the added one and maybe the fork rods during the fender clip/stand change, which I also thought was odd. The bike talks yes.. The frame was made earlier in 37 imo. maybe built up in 38? Would be nice to see an advertisement with this particular badge/bike/truss rods with a date on it.

Ok here ya go-Jun 1937 ad with bike equipped just like this. It’s interesting to note that this ad is from the left coast office and not Ohio.
