Why Do some vintage schwinns have MAHOWALDS right underneath the handle bars

i just bought a bike.. Dont have pics of it yet but willl have them by tomorrow.. but i do believe it to be a black corvette. But right under the handle bars it says MAHOWALDS instead of SCHWINN... But in other spots it does say Schwinn and all the parts say Schwinn on it. So is it a Schwinn? Or what is this MAHOWALDS?

schwinn bikes were sold under many different headbadges.it's still a schwinn,just sold by another distributor.i have a bf goodrich schwinn and there were many others as well.

mahowald sold schwinn and other makers of bicycles.whats cool is the headbadge. they also sold harley-davidson motorcycles and used the bar and shield logo for their badge and H-D found out and threatend a lawsuit.cool stuff.
