Wood Rim Width

How wide are original wooden rims for singletube bicycles? (the armored wood set that I have are being stored at my parents house) I'm shopping for new rims and the CB Italias that I'm looking at are 31mm wide which may be a little bit narrow, but if I mate them to a 700 x 40 tire, it should closely approximate an original wheelset.

I know the Velocity p-35 rims are only a couple of mm wider than a standard wood clad so your 31mm and a 40mm tire should work great.

Just measured a set of 28" wood clad's and they are 35mm or 1-3/8" wide.

Going the P-35 faux teak rims is a pricey proposition too. I know the ride will be better, but wow, those things are expensive.

If I ever get a few other projects out of the way I am looking at using the P-35 rims in what ever color is the cheapest then doing a vintage style paint and pinstripe maybe with enamel and a paint brush to give it that grainy look. Just a thought. I have also seen the rims for under 80.00 each.

The original tires are 28 x 1.5" so 24.5 plus 12 is around 36 to 7 mm
