Finally riding a big boys bike
I need to mask the tank on my 1958 Phantom. I've seen photos where the chrome on the tank is next to the upper frame bar. Others, where there is a scallop cutting in and it's the tank color. Which is correct for my bike? Thanks in advance.

Generally there is a scallop but I have seen a lot of inconsistency with these. I have four or five original bikes and will try to get pics tonight to give you an idea. V/r Shawn

I looked at my boys bikes--'54, '56, and '59. The '59 does not have the scallops but not sure exactly when they started doing that. Maybe someone here with an original '58 can answer that question. V/r Shawn

Thanks for looking. My research seems to be that there is no rhyme or reason to the paint pattern. I have seen both on early and late model Phantoms.
