hawthorne looks just like my prewar I had. very noisey I got rid of mine. They also put these on rollfast but the spring was a little different like square instead of round
 
I saw a rusty old girls rollfast with one like that, had an old soup can on top of the spring.
 
Prewar Rollfast

Looks like a prewar rollfast springer- introduced in 1939 i believe.
Later postwar springer changed to more of a beehive design.
