Actor Jack Palance (1919-2006) touches a Zenith R511, during the 1957 film noir House of Numbers. The classic Zenith radio is similar to one I'm trying to buy, from a reluctant seller.

Palance and Barbara Lang (1928-1982) starred in the '57 flick. (Turner Classic Movies image.)

I went on a 7–8 hour round trip with my girls, picking up the green home-brewed tandem for parts because I REALLY needed the tank for my Dayton which I am finally serious about restoring. I robbed the tank already, it’s in my cab. I didn’t want the tank dented. That bike is so big it over hung my truck bed by over 2’. It’s made from an early post-war CWC Roadmaster and a 1959 Huffy. I might be able to cut the Roadmaster free but the Huffy frame is done for. Loads of good parts.

I also came home with this rather nice Schwinn tandem that was also a home brew. It’s a balloon tire build, with a Bendix kickback. I may keep this intact a little longer because my wife always wanted to do a photo shoot with a tandem and this may be the one. It also may save my head, because I came home with two more totally unplanned bikes. I’ll eventually part it out too.

This little girl was in the back of the place, the frame is chewed up on the kickstand side so it’s likely not fixable but with the TRM tanks available now, somebody may want to build it. I picked this one because of the springer and the OEM Spaceliner pedals.

Lastly, this beautiful 1965 Schwinn Collegiate in Radiant Violet. I have two bikes for sale now, one almost ready, and another in pieces so it will be awhile before I start it.

Took a ride from the chitcago area to the east St. Louis area this week for a pack of Colson double bars. Got off the highway and drove Rt. 66 for a bit. Thank you tjkajecj and it was great to meet you. Been on the hunt for a LWB for a long time and the blue one without the Victor badge just caught my eye and had to have it.

Pretty good week of sourcing parts for my Surly Pugsley single speed project. I’ll be reusing the rear rim that’s currently laced to a Shimano Alfine 8 speed hub.

My nephew has really been getting into old bikes, tandems specifically and I accidentally left my pedal wrench at his place. Time to buy a new one, doh!

A Minneapolis visit to see my wife’s family yielded these various bicycle decals but I was most excited for the Salsa B-max decals, off their weirdo ‘99 only BMX style bars.
