2026 Golden Jubilee Dearborn to Philadelphia Tour ... June 22, 2026 to July 4, 2026
On July 4th 1976 a group of 41 Wheelmen members set off from The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan with sights set on riding to Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Fourteen days and just over 700 miles on a high wheel, this is a cause for celebration!
After all, July 4th, 2026 marks the 250th birthday of America, the 150th debut of the bicycle at the Centenary Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876 and the 50th anniversary of the Wheelmen Centennial Meet in July 1976 in Philadelphia.
What could be better than a group of today's Wheelmen riding the same route as The Wheelmen rode in 1976?
Now a small group of Wheelmen are planning such a trip. We would like other members to join this historic event.
This is what is planned so far:
Leave The Henry Ford Museum on June 22nd, 2026
Arrive Philadelphia on July 4th, 2026
These dates will not change and are pretty much set for The Tour
Stop over towns are:
Waltz, Michigan
Oak Harbour, Wakeman, and Streetsboro, Ohio
Sharon, Emlenton, Brooksville, Driftwood, Loch Haven't, Milton, Millersburg, Ephrata and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The tour will be mostly unsupported. Each rider will be responsible for their own transportation, food and lodging. Support vehicles will be available for handling gear and support items. Hopefully, at least two vans will sag the tour. Most likely accommodations will be in local motels. The 1976 the Tour saw a lot of camping and youth hostels. Not sure how this would work out 50 years later.
We welcome all riders, and all (preferred) antique bicycles. This is not a race, we are all winners. Average miles per day will be around 60. The Allegheny Mountains will prove to be a challenge. Plan on being in the saddle around 8 hours each day. Find a friend or ride in small groups. Start and finish each day by your own merits.
