On Training Wheels
I was recently given an Elgin bicycle but don't know the year, model or what it might be worth. So Im turning to the experts in this category and hoping someone on here could tell me.
It is a really cool looking bike and I'm sure if that bike could talk there would be a lot of stories to tell. I will post some pics along with this post. Please let me know any info you could offer on this bike.
The serial number is B185408. Atleast I'm pretty sure that's it. I got the numbers from the bottom of the crank bearing housing.
Thank you

basics at first glance from a non senior member.. (me)
its been repainted, forks at least were red. so if not the whole bike repainted the forks were.
if the forks are repainted and the bike isnt, they arent the original forks, but they could be.
the fenders look 'peaked' but I really cant tell.
the stem is popular right now.. it an 'art deco' stem.. from the 40's
looks like a torrington, but different.. or a different design, could be
has nice drop center wheels..
it looks like colson badged as an 'elgin', or a colson made elgin..
looks a lot like my 1940 Good Year Wings, made by Colson, which is really a Colson scout badged as a Good Year wings.. the ser# on the bb will solve this mystery.
mines a 1940. the 'o' last digit indicates the year
na, its not.. totally different and the upside down face from a senior member indicates im clearly wrong.. I did my best.. standing by to learn

a senior member will chime in soon

;)

a senior member who isnt upset I tried to guess will chime in soon with an answer. in the mean time we laugh I was wrong and wait for a bike jedi to come down from a cloud and answer... lmao :)
I love this site.

Hi @ChopperRon

It is most likely a Westfield produced bicycle. A photo of the serial number format would help confirm that.

If so, then B185408 indicates it was made October to November 1937.

Just above the serial number you should find a second code, possibly D8, D9 or D10. If you can tell me which, I can give you a little more info.

Best regards, Adrian
