'Lil Knee Scuffer
Hi,

I am brand new to the forum. I am restoring my dad's 1939 cycletruck and need a little help finding the original kick stand, or if I can get the specs, I have a friend who thinks he can fabricate it. I've searched on e bay but didn't find anything. I am also having a bit of a struggle separating the handlebar stem from the fork. The bolt that goes down to the razor piece has been missing for decades and the razor piece has rusted to the stem. I put a borescope down the hole where the bolt goes to see what I was dealing with and have attached a picture. Kind of a mess :). Pretty sure if I can get it loose, the stem is going to be ruined so I will also be looking for that part. Any thoughts on how to break that loose would be appreciated. We have tried a lot of stuff, and the next plan of action is to put a conductive heater on the stem to see and ratchet it to see if it might break loose.

Thanks in advance.
Bruce

Funny i don’t have more pictures now that I have it torn down but I found these from a 25 mile bike ride i did with it back in 2018 in conjunction with a local irishfest. I have decorated it up with lights and other festive stuff for a Christmas ride each year but I’ll hold those back for now. You can see the kick stand I bought to keep it upright. functional but definitely not original. Thanks for the response.

You can do a search in the restoration section for the methods folks here have used to get stems out. Given this will be a restoration I wouldn't be afraid to break out the heat wrench. You are also going to need the correct seat, pedals, grips, rear fender, badge, and chain guard.

You need specifically a "PRE WAR" Cycle Truck Stand. You also need the shouldered axle nuts for a Pre War stand, and the nuts need to have the Schwinn threading, not the Bendix threading (3/8 by 24). The post war Cycle Truck stand pivots off the fork, it will not fit your earlier design. They both are reproduced and sold on eBay. Do whatever you can to save the tall forged stem, they are not easy to find in good condition. Good luck with your rebuild.
