Schwinn Excelsior & White Rims

Does anybody know when Schwinn started specing the white rims shown on this Excelsior? I'm trying to determine if they could be original to this bike.

I can say that the S-2's came with white enamel on the lower end models in 1948.

Isn't 48 the year that the bikes may have had drop centers as well? How should one decide.

Thanks, GTs58. That's helpful. With blackwalls, no tank and no light, this appears to be a lower end model. Still, the paint appears original and may clean up nicely!
