Finally riding a big boys bike
Need a little help with serial number. Don't understand the G5. E146425. I believe it's a 1940. Not for sure. Found this at a estate sale $ 25. Thank you in advance and Happy Halloween

Hi @cadillacbike

Now I'm home, and have my notess with me, I should just say that for some years Westfield dated the year and month that the frame of the bicycle was made, and this is the G5 code, G being 1940 (for frame codes only, serial numbers use a different year code), and 5 is May.

The serial number code started with a letter too, and in this case E is 1940. Serial numbers were allocated to the frame only when it was built up into a bike.

Something that is a little unusual about this bike is that often the date the frame is made is only shortly before the icycle is built up. In this case, although the frame was made in May 1940, the bicycle was built up very late in the year, perhaps 6 months later..

Serial number E139805 has a G10 (Oct 1940) frame, and E149696 has a G11 dated frame. So your bike was built up late October/early November 1940. In fact, it is it's 80th birthday round about now (-:

Best Regards,

Adrian
