1950's Schwinn Straightbar with Springer...DX?...Panther?...Just Got It

I know about chrome fenders on Panthers, but who knows...maybe the fenders aren't original to the bike either.
DX sounds right at any rate. Like my 1950...

It isn’t a DX. A DX has a different frame.

I was thinking it could be a truss fork fender but I don’t recall seeing one that didn’t come with a train light.

Nice ay ay ay project Harpo. I’m into one of these projects, too with my ‘51 Columbia Franklinbike.
at least you have close to proper parts on it and not some like mine from the previous owner who must have been on dangerous drugs when building it. He must have been a “crash test dummy” by the looks of my fork. Have fun…..hoping you like red!

Have you measured that fork next to another fork? The proportions look off, like the distance between the legs and the struts seems far closer together than a normal postwar knee-action fork. Did early forks (like maybe in ‘38) have a different size?

Kinda looks like the upper portion of the painted fork is bent backward, hence the truss portion not fitting in the fender groove...fwiw, I own no springer forks and am not even remotely an expert...or the fender is for a plain truss fork with no springer?

I agree the fork legs look bent but more so below the pivot bolt. The legs like they are not as curved as they should be.

Yeah, you can tell the truss rods aren't even connected. They've been tucked in behind the fender braces because the back legs are "too long" to let them reach the axle.
