Okay so let’s recap the opinions here:

The model could be any of the following.
  • American - if the wheels are original.
  • Skipper
  • Tiger
  • Fleet

Your choices would be the American or the tiger. The other models do not have a chrome fork crown or the deluxe headset. The correct rims will be center stamped S7’s.

According to the catalogs, the heavy duty American was available in 1962, so if the wheels are original that's my guess. The chain wheel is AMF, they made bikes for Firestone along with many others.

Wasn‘t the red band first introduced in 1963? It certainly could be on a stamped 1962 bike that was not built until ‘63. Maybe I’m wrong about the red band

Thank you all for this information. It is helpful in determining a plan for this bicycle.

I didn't think about the red band. "B2" would be Feb. '62, so if the red band was introduced in 1963, that would have been an long time between the stamp date and the build date.

So this is what this unit should have looked reasonably close to originally? The Bicycle with the rack is a 62 and KingSize is a 64. I found these photos online.

Is it the opinion that the fenders I have on mine would not have been original and should have been a painted or chromed steel set?

That's probably the best guess, at least the best I've got.

The 1962 Americans had painted fenders
and the 1963 model had chrome fenders. That one with the rack is probably miss dated but it could have a very late 1962 serial number which is normal for the transition models. Here's the 1962 image.

Alright you guys have me dialed in to do it justice and clean it up into a good rider that hasn’t been bastardized.
