Finally riding a big boys bike
Schwinn 5-Speed Apple Krate Stingray bicycle. Serial number on rear dropout dates the frame to April 1970, crank is dated SA1269 (December 1969). I purchased this from the son of the original owner. His father and he rode this bike as a kids.
Condition: all original parts/paint: frame, handlebars, shifter, brake calipers, grips, front wheel with Atom drum brake and Schwinn Superior tire, rear five (5) speed wheel/sprocket/deraileaur with "7 Stars" 2.0 x 2.125 "knobby" tire (I don't know if this is original, but knobby tires were an option when these were sold vs. the "slick" rear tire), chrome front and rear fenders, chrome spring fork.
Replacements: the original seat was gone, so I purchased a Schwinn seat from 1998 with the seat clamp, seat post and reflector. Pogo "sissy" bar was also gone, so I purchased a high quality reproduction. Cables had been messed up, so I replaced them with new cables with white housings.
Restored: all paint and lettering on the chair guard had worn off, so I followed guidance here on the CABE: masking, painting an aluminum base coat then translucent candy apple red paint for an exact match to the frame. Last, Schwinn authorized water slide decal was placed on the guard.
$1700, local pickup.
