Sold 1984-85 Ross Hi-Tech MTB

1984 / 1985 Ross Hi-Tech mountain bike.

Almost 100% original. Classic 80’s chrome frame.

Upgraded seat post, conversion stem and seat.

Vintage 90’s Easton Carbon fiber bars.

The conversion stem allows modern threadless stems and bars to be used, allowing easier ergonomic changes /adjustments to be made.


The front derailleur is not hooked up but is 100% functional.

New brake cables and shifter cable.

Everything is tight , friction shifting and brakes work as they should. and all bearings are smooth.

This bicycle is ready to ride as is.


I believe this is an American made frame , although I am unable to verify this 100%.




The only reason I’m selling is it is slightly too small for me. I am 5’ 9” tall

Center of head to seat post is 23”

I believe this would be perfect for someone 5’6” to 5’ 8”


Local pick up only. I know this is a pain, but the bike culture here sucks, and trying to get a bicycle sized box from what very few bike shops are here has proven to be extremely difficult and time consuming. ( they say they have one, drive all the way to Charlotte, show up and nobody knows anything about a box, even had a guy tell me he will not give used boxes away)

So, sorry for local pick up only. I figured I’ll list it and try.

Very nice. Perhaps a Mt Hood. But chainring looks double not triple. Maybe missing outer big ring. GLWS!

Thank you. I took the triple ring off, I guess it’s habit. I had a bad crash years ago at a mtb festival on a 1988 Cannondale with a triple, it was like saw blade and cut into my calf down to the bone when I crashed, ever since then i removed the largest triple ring on all mtb. Even after surgery and physical therapy all these years later I still have pain and limited motion in my right calf.

At that price, nobody should wait on this...Really nice old steel mtb, somebody run over there and get this rare machine to turn into a townie. These steel rigid mtb's were a handfull in rough conditions at racing speeds..glws

Sounds like you experienced the “good old days” of mountain biking.

I started riding Mtb in 1986, and yiu are correct, those early bikes were a handful off road. We still thought it was cool…. Until I ride my first full suspension , a 1999 Specialized S-Works M4, felt like riding on a cloud, lol.

Yes, unless you have ridden them hard at speed in the rough, you can't truly describe what we speak of. Modern MTB's smooth it all out to almost un-noticable. Nothing more exciting than rocketing along on these rigid steely bikes with foam helmets at speed in the rough. People, this is a nice bike..
