Your old frame turned into a really great build. I think that threaded hole was for a grease fitting. It was pretty much a gimmick. Sears used it on some of their early Elgins. Is there a chance that the Headbadge was replaced? Lots of old bikes lost the badge and a kid replaced it with whatever was handy. I didn't notice any screws in it. If so, it would be interesting if another early badge would fit any existing screw holes.

Thank you! I tried to find pictures to confirm whether a grease fitting went there or not, but the only photos of these CWC bottom brackets I saw were of the underside where the serial number is stamped. It wouldn't surprise me if a grease fitting went there, though.

Given the extra brazing around the bottom bracket and a couple other spots on the frame, in addition to some green paint I found inside the head tube, my guess is that the frame was repaired once years ago, then repainted black. They must have removed the headbadge in the process, though how it's sticking to the frame without rivets or bolts, I don't know. I've had at least one person tell me it's the original badge to this bike, but I have no idea. I'm not too familiar with prewar bikes, especially CWCs. The rivet holes in the badge are pretty close to where they are on the frame though, so it might be the original badge.
