I think there was at one time a tool to remove the crank cotter on the Raleigh bikes. Does anyone know about them? How well do they work? Where to find them. I've always just used and old hospital bed table, a socket and a bench vise. Clumsy, but it worked.....
I use a Bikesmith Designs cotter press, money well-spent. But I also do a fairly large number of cottered crank repairs, so a heavy-duty, dedicated tool is warranted. It will be kind of expensive if you only have one set of cotters to do.

I wish I had bought that one back when I had a lot more of these bikes. I used the vice/table/socket method on many bikes and it was flawless, but heavy and unprofessional looking.....

I found this at a car swap meet a few years ago.
The guy had it in a bin of miscellaneous stuff and didn't know what it was.
It's a big, beefy tool.
Note the seller's price tag still on it.
Probably the best deal I've ever gotten at a swap!
I have a bikesmith cotter press and the shop has a lever style. If you get up here you can borrow one if you want.
Or bring the bike up to the shop, whichever.
Let me know in advance. I won't be around this weekend

I bought a box of old tools Veloswap several years ago for $50 that had this VAR press. It's silly how easy it makes cotter pin removal. Thinking of struggles in the past with those pins made me LMAO the first time I used it.Effortless & quick!!
