Great question. I am not sure but I have been reading a fascinating book about the history of Hudson's department store in Detroit and other satellite locations. I would not be surprised at all if they sold private labeled bikes made by others.

Hudson’s definitely sold bicycles as well as, not surprisingly Hudson automobiles.
There was a Hudson Auto showroom on the ground floor.
