Once again id like to thank everyone for all the help and words of encouragement . I am currently in the middle of a complete garage make over with a home bike shop. So this winter the bike will get a complete tear down and service. I and currently tracking down the few bits the bike needs.

Its done! I gave the bike a complete overhaul. I polished what I could and did my best to clean the paint. I think it turned out well considering the condition it was in when I started.

I know many wouldn't have given this bike the time of day since it wasn't a higher end model. But I saw a challenge and wanted to learn about French bikes.
Little did I know about some of non standard parts I'd come across. I hope to find the correct brake hoods and a period saddle, but if I don't that's okay.

The one challenge that I faced where the wheels, the spokes were so rusty that I thought about sourcing another set of wheels, but after some thought I decided that these were the perfect set to try my hand at re-lacing and building a set of wheels. So I Purchased a truing stand, dishing gauge and the assorted other tools needed. Spokes were replaced with stainless replacements. They aren't perfect but Im very pleased with how they came out.

What do you think? How did I do?

Excellent job, looks marvelous! 👍

I have this NOS Ideale 42 stashed away somewhere. I found it on eBay France and had to talk the seller into shipping it to the US. Found out after I got it that it was not identical to the Ideale 42's that Schwinn used during 1961-1963. Schwinn had Ideale slightly modify the saddles that were made for them.

Outstanding!
Love what you’ve done with your bike!
It looks great!
Thanks, for taking us along for the ride, and allowing this esteemed group of enthusiasts the chance to exercise their knowledge.
Well done, by everyone here at the Cabe, getting this one across the finish line.
Bravo!
Louison Bobet would be proud.

thank you for the update

very nice job you have done, looking good

we had not seen the cycle's pedals previously

they are Lyotard model 15S

note how they "hang" in the crank arms with the "wrong side" up

they are designed to be employed with toeclips and straps

if you attempt to ride the cycle with them like this it will be frustrating to always have the "wrong side" come up

adding toeclips and straps will be a big help

you may wish to also add a kickup tab
this makes it easier/faster to bring up "the right side"

small tip -

original tyres would have been gumwalls

bike would look "better" as in "more correct" with such tyres

sometimes they are a little difficult to find today but are still being manufactured and available

These were the pedals on the bike, I have clips and straps to add. You are correct about the tires, I had these already and couldn't resist getting it to together.
Thanks for the kind words
