Funny nobody mentioned the cyclone. It was mid day, unusually nice weather for Ohio, sunny and partly cloudy with a gentle breeze. I was having a beer with Flat Tire across the isle from my spot and I heard a commotion on the next isle over. Mississippi Queen's easy up was ripping to shreds in the air and all her bikes went down. Before I could react Flat Tire's umbrella went down and I looked back at my spot. I had about 40 or 50 metal gas station numbers ranging from 6" to 24" leaning against the concrete barrier. Most of them were flying around in circles like knives, along with my two Mavic wheel cases and some other stuff. Most of it blew into the next two isles. Some landed across the street. Catfish caught a video of the last few seconds and you can see one of my wheel bags and a few letters about 50 feet in the air. Just a little Ohio dust devil.

I heard my dad discussing it with someone but didn’t realize it was that bad!

It happened on Thursday after 4pm, so a lot of people were already gone for the day. Before it started, all the dogs started going nuts and I looked up and I saw a lot of Joel’s vintage gas station numbers up swirling above the light poles. Then I realized what it was and started high-tailing it out of there. It was going down the roadway like it had a mind of its own!

Yeah, it was pretty crazy. The porta-potties were violently rocking and the potty doors were slamming open and closed. The twister headed straight for me, I ducked down behind some bikes that were bundled together, I could feel the wind lifting me up, thank goodness the weight of my beer belly kept me on the ground. Almost every bike in sight had been blown over. That's the first time I've ever witnessed anything like that. The scariest part was that there was no warning whatsoever, just appeared suddenly, out of nowhere, on a calm, sunny afternoon.

Sounds alot like the weather up here in Wisconsin during the tornado season and those sheer winds can come out of no where and just send stuff sailing through the air with out warning. Crazy fun times. Hope no one was hurt. Bring more tie downs next time. Be safe. Mark.

A lot of nice bikes hit the ground, fortunately most were parked on the grass, next time I'll be thinking about how to better secure the bikes, a kickstand alone ain't enough.
