One last ditch effort to post this morning. I'll let a chick ( my G/F) try. She's baffled. Not happening on her watch. If you are bored, read on. If not move on.
Just to be clear here. This little rant ( and I do rant) is not for self promotion. I'm just another bicycle nut. I just wanted to show ( CBC television) an OLD funny local TV bit ( there were actually 2, another one from another local TV network/ CKY same era, on VHS stashed somewhere....lol, again they asked me) from the late 80's to entertain some of the more "junior" Cabers and show that some of us old farts ( all due respect Chris
@oldfart36 ) have been at this awhile. 40+ years to be honest.
I had a basement with Elgins, a Mercury Super Deluxe ( bought from Memory Lane/late Larry Busch), Columbia ( a repro RX5 I bought off the late Larry and Harvey at the Hershey car /flea market early 80's)a Monark Super Deluxe ( picked outa Minnesota), Hiawatha, Silver King, pedal cars, Sky Tot 30's skirted fenders tricycle, CCM Bike wagons, and was being guided ( as a Canuck) by the likes of Leon Dixon, Larry Busch, Thad Pinnix, to name a few. I'm not trying to score points here. I'm sharing the fun as I do/have done since the 70's. Lots of other people on this site have been doing it longer than I have. Good for them.
I was late getting on the Cabe ( knew and dealt with Scott
@sm2501 long before) slow getting "on line" and was not computer savvy ( am still not) but more so private. Lap tops didn't exist when I started, not to mention even a dream of a cell phone/texting/camera on a phone? ( I'm still not a fan of, cells or FB for that matter). Pen and paper communication, or long distance phone call on push button units or even rotary dials.
Picking was mainly local, but flying or driving to a show or picking on a road trip was common too. A buddy and I ( he's in the video) drove to Minnestoa is a compact truck in a blizzard in Winter to pick an old dudes ( Pete/not our pal
@onecatahula ) place I met while driving the backroads of Minnesota while on business. I got my 1st Firestone Super Cruiser from Pete Senkyr in "Pitt, Mn.". Pete was in his 80's THEN and the local bike wrench/bike mechanic/assembler for locals and True Value Hardware. Also bought a '34 gals Silver King, wood rims, lots of cool loot. It was a regular stop back in the day! These bikes are still around in another local collection.
I still have 3 of these original ( 2 are restored/ Merc Super Deluxe, Elgin Twin bar also bought at Hershey/shipped by Larry Busch) bikes from this era, 1 was in the video. The Mercury Super Deluxe Fleet Line. My 25 year old daughter has the Hiawatha! ( she's about 10 in this picture)
Last but not least in my rant is I'm not trolling for "friends" on facebook, or the Cabe or looking to impress anyone. Frankly I don't care. I think I've made lots of friends on the Cabe. It just happens. I have hobby friends long distance and locally. Also dozens of friends not remotely related to my vintage collecting hobby long distance and locally.
I've lived in Winnipeg over 65 years and still have pals from early school age to current ages. There are about 6 that live only blocks away./We do boys nights/bonfires/ garage nights, used to do lots of fishing trips/dinner parties with Wives. That's one reason I joined facebook, to post pictures and information I have that I've saved and want to share with friends and acquaintenances alike. I have 2 groups on FB/just joined reluctantly/about 3 weeks ago. ( I fear loss of privacy with social media). Fort Garry Folks ( in the part of the city I grew up in, now live back in/never moved far within the city) and a model toy outboard group, and the non FB Cabe forum.
I was able to email the video once and may be able to again. It's hit and miss. I see Chris
@oldfart36 somehow managed to view it, and I emailed a copy to my pal Bobby U early this a.m., not sure if he got it, he's a night owl, probably still crashed, we were chatting by phone after 2 am my time this morning.
PM me your email address if you wanna see it, if not no sweat. It's not very good, but is funny and dated. My plan was not to ask for FB friends because lots of people just ask anyone. I had a stranger ask me on the FB toy outboard site, and I've ignored. I'm not a snob, I just don't know him. He is a "friend" of the one "friend" I did ask, but so what? If he likes what I post ( and I do post some neat pics and comments, and have info going back 30+ years in that hobby) give me a like.
A new pal in Mn. talked me into the toy outboard FB group so I friended him. I told my G/F no. Chris asked and he is my friend, so if I can figure out how, he will be #2. If a cute chick asks me ( my G/F is cute and I said "no") I'll probably decline. My FB settings are at the MAX privacy I could muster. I don't even have my picture on my avatar. Sure it's nice to get some "likes" on the Cabe or FB, but friends who I don't know from Adam, don't need 'em. Do I care what you had for breakfast or you have a rash on your azzz...don't care.
My G/F took me for breakfast after I got her flat tire fixed. All is not lost. A buddy who is turning 71 today, has prostate Cancer, just got outa the hospital, is having some pals over later. He's a vintage car hobby buddy as are his Sons. I'm giving him 1 aluminum Corvette valve cover as a gift. He wanted 2, but I can't find the other, he's a hoarder, and would probably never use them if there was 2! Have a nice day. Bob ( Nashman) McLenaghan
