Looked up the web page, date at the top is 56...and they describe it as "new"... interesting, bendix and new departure overlap by quite a bit...

Google books is weird. I think you can get there if you copy and paste the link into your browser, but not if you click on it. Here's a screenshot of a portion of the ad in the July 1955 Boys life.

Interesting timeline.
I always thought that 55 was about the end of the line for the New Departure bicycle division.
The Twin Streak must have been their last hurrah!
Did Mattatuck continue the production of it also?
