The frame looks like it was maroon to me. The fenders and guard were green, so it seems at least to my eyes that they were added to the bike. Pretty cool project.

Picked this up yesterday. B model with locking truss fork and an H serial, so it almost has to be late 1941 production. (K4 Hub jives with that) Missing the original bars, grips, pedals, seat and rear reflector. There’s one weird rivet on the front fender behind the fork. I think the headlight may be a bit squished on the left side too.

Interesting! Rivet was where the Spring fork would mount... the spring and truss fenders are the same
other than keyhole slot for truss, and small hole for springer... Schwinn ran out of truss fenders...
used a springer one... Resourceful!!!

The red that you see isn’t original paint. That paint covered EVERYTHING, frame, fenders, handlebars (even where it passes through the stem), truss rods, crank, etc. And the black paint was a layer on top of it. I think someone may have stripped off the visible paint (ie not under the fenders, under the decal or on the back of the chainguard) and then painted the whole thing red. Then someone later sprayed the whole thing black. The inside of the bottom bracket and the steer tube were also coach green.

I stripped the paint off of the brightwork, cleaned up most of the bolts and put it back together on correct size tires that weren’t see through. It came with the most threadbare set of Schwinn Spitfire 26x1.75 tires.

The handlebars aren’t braced as I would expect, and they have an “X” marked on them where a set of Torrington’s would be stamped with a “T,” so I’m assuming they’re replacements?
