I'm thinking that they might be inventory numbers stamped by the dealer. They're obviously post-production stampings through the paint. I notice that according to the dealer's receipt, they offer rentals as well as sales, so perhaps someone bought the rental bike in unused form (they paid full price for it), even though the dealer had already stamped two ID numbers on it, perhaps for their rental fleet...?
I think they were stamped when the bike was licensed at the fire station or PD, this was common in Ca. back in the day. (They tried to do this on my Peugoet PX10 and I refused. I could not let them damage the 531 tubing !)

That's a thought, yes... although there are only two stamped digits to be seen; it doesn't seem like those would be unique enough to identify the bike among all the thousands of others in the same city. It does have a separate Oakland license sticker from 1967, when the bike was two years old, and that sticker is dated 9-67, seeming to match the two stamped digits of 9 and 7, though that might just be a co-inky-dink. The way to confirm that would be to find any other vintage bike with an Oakland sticker on it from that era, and look for similar stampings. I notice that the Oakland sticker has been plastered over some other sticker of a different shape and color, either an earlier license sticker or maybe a dealer label.

Anybody own a legitimate very early (July / Aug.) Super Deluxe?
If so does it have a 36 spoke rear wheel on it like shown in the Schwinn Reporter and the Sports Illustrated ad.
Every “Super Deluxe” I’ve seen always has a 28 spoke rear wheel.

My H4 (Aug.’64) Lime Deluxe was built with the 36 spoke and this seems to be the last month use of the 36.

My H4 SD Lime came from original owner just missing og pedals, grips, high hoop sissy bar, front axle & black wall slick, it was partially disassembled and had the baldest blk wall knobby on a 28 spoke rim, I ask the owner about it and he said it was a og blk walk slick bike for sure ( he said WW were for sissy’s and he had the first bw slick in town ) and he went thru a few rear tires but didn’t remember changing the rim but who knows.
