Riding a '38 Autocycle Deluxe
3rd owner is me on this one. Bicycle was purchased by a gentleman some years back at an estate auction in
Bloomington Illinois. The original owner saved up for the bike and used it on his paper route. I was told he
would ride a good ways to what was essentially a mansion on the outside of town. He said to himself that someday
he would own that very mansion. Well eventually he did. The 2nd owner was a close friend and when the orig
owner passed, he attended the estate sale/auction gig at the big house. His intent was to buy the car collection
which unfortunately he was unable to do. He did however outbid all the folks there on the bike. Kept it for
quite a few years through the 2000's and decided to downsize 'stuff' just recently, so the bike came up.
The bike was such a nice survivor with some minor issues... seat, tires, fenders and minor details...
The bike deserved some of the best parts I had laying around to upgrade.
here's my upgrade list and parts I had saved forever that could have been
sold seperately for good $.... but I felt deserved to pony up to this bicycle.
Front rim is rechromed at the time I laced the drum, I thought this would bring it up from the dull but 'ok' orig S2
on board. I will also provide a NICE orig S2 hoop I just found here, if you decide to lace that up instead of the rechromed one.
Rechromed one does NOT really stand out as redone however..blends pretty well.
Bike has the rare 'Big Belly' or "prego" Delta Taillight...works !
Schwinn key of course...Nice survivor "AS" pedals
Just a beautiful Phantom as she sits and priced at what I think is fair for one with such nice paint, chrome, parts etc.
I have an NOS chainguard decal "Black Phantom" that I will include... might waterslide off...no guarantees but looks good!
This bike was so effing cool I felt it deserved a slight upgrade /makeover treatment... Plus the history!
2800.00 plus the ride
