Hello everyone, I am looking for information, a fair valuation, and potentially the right buyer for a highly authentic piece of cycling history. I own a 100% original, untouched Columbia Model 40 men's safety bicycle, manufactured by the Pope Mfg. Co. Here are the specific details and technical markings of the bike:
- Frame Size: Rare 25" tall frame (measured from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube).
- Head Badge Inscriptions: Fully intact and reads: "Columbia. Model 40. Pope mfg co." - Patent Dates (Left Side
PATENTED DEC.6.87. MAR.10.91. and OCT.10.94. - Patent Dates (Right Side
NOV.10.94. PATENTS APPLIED FOR. MADE IN U.S.A. - Condition & Patina: The bicycle is in "as-found", uncleaned, and unrestored condition. The black enamel paint is flaking in some areas with a nice layer of honest surface rust/patina. The seat post is currently frozen in the seat tube due to age, and I have refrained from forcing it to prevent any damage.
- Original Components: The bike appears to be completely original down to the last detail. It features the original leather-wrapped/laced wooden grips, original handlebars, original leather saddle, and the highly desirable original wooden rims (wood looks straight and solid).
