9255D would be very early 1942, built in the strange period at the entry of the US into WW2 in November 1941 when bicycle manufacture stopped for a while, then restarted with a weight limit of 47lb, and April 1st 1942 when only triangular frame 'Lightweight' 31lb bikes could be made.
The frame is essentially the same as the early Huffman Dayton military G519 bicycles which were built only a few weeks after this one. In fact the closest survivor I have noted is a 'G519 clone', civilian bike like this dressed as a Military bike.
I don't suppose there is a date code stamped on the top of the fork bridge (two or three numbers).?
