Sold Schwinn 1947-48 DX Nice Rider Solid Bike

Here we have what I believe is likely a 1947 DX that could be a 48. It is a very good looking bike with solid original paint. The fenders and rack are a bit darker than the frame. The fenders do have screws rather then rivets. The bike has nice drop center rims with a Morrow hub. The white Persons seat should clean up nice. The handlebars are a little tweaked. I do not have the pedals. I can ship this to the West coast for $150. I can also meet at The Rockford IL bike swap on Sunday November 16th. I am asking $475 or an offer. Thanks, Matt

I can check the date tomorrow. I was thinking 47 since it doesn't have the raised letter seatpost clamp or taper kickstand.

That has some of the nicest original paint fenders I've seen in a long while. A real beauty.

The fenders are not original to the bike, they were originally from a B model. The Bike is a probably a 1947 D 97X-6 as there is no convincing evidence of the existence of a tank. The rack and the fenders were added later.

There are some really good "paint guys" around here. I think they would say that the fenders have been repainted but if they are in original condition, then they were pirated from a nice bike and that doesn't make any sense. Regardless, the fenders were not born with the bike and that directly addresses any originality issues. The rack has the same color and flash as the fenders and was probably painted at the same time as the fenders, but I can't prove that since I wasn't there.

I would guess that your take on this is correct...I was thinking along the lines of the shiny parts could be old NOS parts right out of the wrapper. Yes, doubtful they would be pirated from a bicycle that was in great condition, unless if they could be girl bike parts (?) (and that comes from a guy who threw lots of dead mint girl bike frames into the dumpster in the 80's)

Furthermore, if the bike is indeed a 1947 D 97X-6 as I suspect, rather than a 1947 D 97XE-6, then it would not have come equipped with a rack anyhow, so the rack question becomes moot.
