Toothless George

On Training Wheels
This is NOT an original Schwinn seat. It is a tribute.
I'm trying to recreate the bicycle that my dad loved as a kid as a birthday present for him.
I only have a few black and white photos to work from so I didn't realize until yesterday that his bike was red.
I need to have a different seat made.

This started as a brand new (2025) aftermarket seat.
I took it to an automotive upholstery shop to have it reupholstered to honor the old Schwinn seats from the 50's and 60's.
The original seats had printing on some kind of molded rubber over a pretty simple seat pan.
This seat is professionally stitched marine grade vinyl over a very fancy chrome spring seat.
The monogram 'S' is actually embroidered, not just printed.

It is literally perfect in every way - except it's not RED.

This is a one-of-a-kind custom item.

I have included images of all my receipts and documentation.
Seat & Shipping: $60.61
"Schwinn Approved" Badge & Shipping: $8.45
Upholstery & Embroidery: $475.49
MY TOTAL COST: $544.55

I am open to offers, but please keep in mind what I paid for this.

That is a gorgeous seat. Can you post a picture of your dad's bike? And do you know the name of the model? Schwinn used many different seats depending on the years in the model. I'd like to see a picture of the bike.

My dad has that photo of his bike. He lives on the opposite coast. I don't want to ask him for the photo because I don't want to risk tipping him off. He's really smart, and I suck at lying. His bike was a 1955 Jaguar. His original seat was also replaced with a custom seat. His mom did the embroidery, and his dad did the upholstery. I'll definitely post pics once the tribute build is complete and gifted.

So the seat that you're trying to replace was not the original pan, springs and frame? Or did his folks just reupholster the original seat. The reason I'm asking is because the color matching two-tone seats similar to the one that you have didn't come about until 1959.

I'm sorry, but I really don't know if his was the original pan, springs, and frame. I assumed it was, but I can't say for sure. All I know is that my grandparents made his seat custom in their auto upholstery shop.
