Dale Alan

I live for the CABE
I have a set of wheels from a 1952 Schwinn lightweight. One tire says...to fit Schwinn Zephyr rims 26 x 1 1/4" .The other tire is in rough shape but I could make out 26 x 1 3/8" . So my question is,are these a Schwinn only rim deal like the S model rims or will any fractional tire work? Thanks for any info.

Not sure what the Zephyr is all about, what brand is the tire? Im almost certain this is still gonna be the 26" S6 rim that uses the 597 ISO "Schwinn" tire. The Kenda tire that is made to fit these rims is labeled 26 x 1 3/8 x 1 1/4 because it apparently fits an English EA-1 rim with the same diameter. Maybe this is a clue as to why the old tire is labeled like that.

The tire is Schwinn Zephyr sports touring,it also says that it is "made to fit Schwinn Zephyr rims. I do not see anything about S6 or 597 . Thanks for your help.

I will guess the year to be about 1960,the front tire on my Schwinn Phantom blew out. My dad and I went to the Schwinn dealer down the street to get a new tire. When the dealer told my dad how much the whitewall would cost, dad said, "We will take a blackwall then". the tire I got was a Zephyr blackwall with a plain ribbed tread.
The reason I recall all this is because I insisted on a whitewall to match the rear tire. After all it was a Phantom.
Pops would have none of that. As I recall he complained the blackwall was too much also, and told me I would buy the next tire with my own money. I dont know if these were Schwinn tires, but he did have a rack of them.
I have never seen another one that I recall. I think they only came in blackwall, and were the cheapest tire the dealer sold.

Here are some pics, not the best. They do specify "to fit Schwinn Zephyr rims",guessing that would be S6 being they state Schwinn specific.
