Have you had time to check this Phantom out a little closer? From the one picture you supplied it looks like a decent Phantom build using lots of Anniversary Phantom parts on a 1946-47 frame. Is that a Schwinn small flange forebrake the builder possibly didn't have time, or the rest of the parts needed to set it up? Does the rear carrier have a notch out at the rear for the light lens?

The front brake is a Sturmey Archer, the brake lever has no markings on it, the rims are wrong as they are Araya rims. The rack has two holes in the top to screw on the brake light, the seat is real leather but I highly suspect that it is a repop because it’s in too good of condition.
I can take pictures of anything else that is questionable, but to me it just looks like a hodgepodge of new, old and reproduction parts.

Well, I hope you got a good deal on it. It’s a nice looking bike.

I like bikes like that...if you bought it right... accurately describe it...flip for $ on ebay...
or part it out....
you do not want to own something like that...

I also just noticed that the PO replaced the kickstand because they didn’t put the retaining pin back in. Properly

Bob I like black phantoms as long as someone else owns them, they are good looking bikes but I prefer prewar bikes that are all original and have a nice patina so I can ride them. Restored bikes just make me nervous to have around or even ride.
This is the first “Black Phantom” that I have ever ridden and it feels super solid. I will either keep it or part it out, and I will always be honest about what it is. Or maybe I’ll strip most of the phantom stuff off of it as the frame and paint would make for a decent looking cruiser.

Jeez, if you like the bike, know it isn't perfect, enjoy riding it, and you are comfortable with what you paid for it- why not just keep it and use it for the sheer love of old bikes? The pictures show it as a very handsome bike that 99.9% of people that see you riding it will appreciate the design and beauty of it. I'm sure you would get many compliments on it, all of them positive.
