Why do they call you The Tinker?
I think it's better than David. That photo I took of that old steam tractor, gosh that got me wanting one of those. That's never going to happen, so last winter I made a baby one out of Erector set parts and other junk from around the house. No plastic. 100% metal, other than the firewood in the box. The boiler front is off a 1930's American Flyer steam engine.

Used all old style slotted screws and nuts in the assembly. Messing with this old mechanical stuff is fun and I think it keeps our mind from turning to jello. Yesterday afternoon I spent putting some parts on the 1945 Ranger. Mounted a 1940's hood bomb from the center of a Buick hood ornament on the front.

I try to think out of the box when building this stuff. Been thinking about ideas for custom saddles

When I first got into actively searching for collector bikes, I wanted everything original. Nowadays, I've found that it's more enjoyable for me to buy an old rusty frame and just build my own fun bikes.

I did that as a kid, never thinking that so many years later it would bring so much enjoyment, just messing with this old junk.

This hobby is harmless and keeps our mind active and away from the computer and Tv. I have always collected anything old. People I know have always given me "stuff. " It's fun. Anyone looking at this, please post your photos of your mechanical hobbies. It all ties into our love affair with old bikes and anything mechanical. As always, have fun....... And Boris thought I would give a simple answer as why my friends call me "the tinker".
