On Training Wheels
I've recently acquired two vintage Schwinn DX bikes. I am restoring one and leaving the other as as is as a regular rider.

The first bike frame has serial number B93383 stamped under the crank housing. The rear wheel down drops load from the front so I assume it is of post-war vintage. It has the attached kickstand tube, built in chain guard mount and fender mount. It originally was maroon in color with a white head tube with simple darts (rather than the ram's head look) extending onto the top, mid and down tubes. It has a New Departure rear brake and hub, Sweetheart skip-tooth sprocket. There are no identifiable numbers are on crank. Crank is a non dogleg. There is no head badge but the holes for the badge are 55cm apart. Any ideas as to the year of production and what badge would be correct?

The second bike has serial number F84305 also stamped under the crank housing. It's features are almost identical to the other bike except it is red in color and has a Bendix brake hub. I haven't opened the crank to see if there are any numbers there. This one is also missing the headbadge but the paint indicates it probabaly had an oval Schwinn badge at one time. The holes are also about 55cm apart.
Can anyone help me on the year of this bike as well?

Riding a '38 Autocycle Deluxe
First bike has to be pre - 8/'48. Previous numbers were lost in a fire, but 8/48 bikes were in a D series. They reused a B series again in 52, but the numbers moved to the rear drop out that year and until mid 1970. The second number is also tricky. They went from an E with 5 number series to an E w/6 numbers, and didn't use F again until 52. There are also several series of numbers with no letters in 48. It could be pre 48 too, but postwar with the built in kickstand and forward dropouts.

Thanks Adam, I rechecked the crank from bike 1 after soaking off a lot of old dried grease. Found #0620A followed by an S within a circle. Also has AS & Co. on opposite side. Does this help?

What year was she made?

Hi, I'm back after a two year hiatus with the same question. Can anywone help me date my Schwinn DX serial number F84305? The number is stamped under the crank casing. I believe it is an early post-war model but understand most serial number records from that time were lost in a fire. A prior post indicates the F prefix was also used in about 1952 but I think this bike is older. Bendix rear hub, skip-tooth chain and sweetheart front sprocket. Thanks!
